Published . Development milestone: October 14, 2026.

Updates that explain what needs restarting.

After an update, it should be easier to understand the next step: restart the computer, log out, or reopen an app.

What changed

Ecliptic checks for software still running older code and shows the reason in Ecliptic Software and the desktop’s update notices. System and session checks distinguish a computer restart from logging out or reopening an app. Ecliptic’s own changed background programs can be restarted automatically.

What was checked

VM tests exercised system and session updates, the visible notices, and clearing them after restarting or logging back in. Driver detection was also checked against loaded modules with a simulated newer installed version.

What remains

Real kernel and NVIDIA upgrades, microcode and firmware updates, and the new daily reminder wording need further checks. This is a development milestone while the public release is still ahead.
